Software for ReflexologistsWhat is Beta Testing?
- When a new piece of software has been produced, the next step is to get some real users to try out the software. This is to help identify any remaining defects (bugs) but also to allow real users to give feedback. For example, are there any important features missing from the software, or does the software match the way in which the user works? This step is called Beta Testing.
How stable (safe to use) is a Beta Test version of the software?
- A Beta Test version of the software will have been tested during production, however it will have had limited exposure to the rigourous demands of real users. Therefore there is a chance that some defects remain and a Beta Test version of the software should be used with this in mind. A Beta Test version should not be used in a critical situation nor with real client data.
What is expected of a Beta Tester?
-
As a Beta Tester, you would use the software in an evaluation environment and give feedback on your experiences. Specifically:-
- Download and install the software.
- Spend some time using the software in an evaluation environment.
- Report back any problems you may encounter, such as installation problems or any defects.
- Make any suggestions as how the software could be improved, and why.
- Feedback on the software can be given via email to the developer, via the form on the contact page, or via the user forum. Using the forum allows other users to see and discuss your feedback, and also allows you to see the feedback given by others.
